Kadankottu Makkam

Kadankottu Makkam Theyyam tells the poignant tale of Makkam, a virtuous woman from a wealthy family in Kannur. Born after her parents prayed to Chuzhali Bhagavathi, she was deeply cherished by her twelve brothers. However, consumed by jealousy, her sisters-in-law falsely accused Makkam of infidelity with a oil-monger. Believing the lies, her brothers tragically decapitated Makkam and her two children. Before her death, she cursed the household, causing it to perish. Deified for her innocence, her Theyyam is performed with profound reverence, embodying maternal grief, tragic betrayal, and ultimate divine justice.
